Gauntlet Scoring Detail

  • Analysts rate each element (Concept, Story, Dialogue, etc.) on a 0 - 3 basis where 1=fair, 2=good, and 3=excellent.
  • Element ratings are then assigned a value (0 = 3.0, 1 = 6.0, 2 = 8.0, and 3 = 10.0) and averaged with other analysts' rankings to achieve the individual Element Scores you see in this section.
  • All Element Scores are averaged together and multiplied by 10 to achieve a 0 - 100 Cumulative Element Score.
  • The number of analysts choosing RECOMMEND (vs PASS) is also taken into account and averaged into a score. For example: if 4 out of 7 analysts recommend a script, this would be a Recommend Score of 57. (4/7 = 0.57)
  • The Cumulative Element Score and Recommend Score are averaged into the Gauntlet Score.
  • Each RECOMMEND on Level 3 adds an additional 3 points to the final Gauntlet Score.

What Is Covered in All Levels?

Your script successfully made it to Level 3 of the Gauntlet. At Level 1, it's their job to do what everyone in the industry will do with your script — to see if it captures and holds their attention in the first 20 pages (or 30 pages, for those on the fence). At Level 2, readers are asked to read half of the script and continue to read the full script if the first half is solid.

You will see a larger set of notes on the first 20 pages of the script, as that is where 7 out of your 17 reads were focussed. Keep in mind, though, that the first 20 pages — the setup — is the most important part or your script.

Some Level 2 readers (those who passed) may have stopped reading after the first half of the script, which may also have it appear that the second half of the script has fewer comments than the first.

Your Script Made It Through the Gauntlet!

The Gauntlet is a structured approach to vet material so quality scripts climb to the top.

LEVEL 1:  Focus on first 20 pages (or 30 pages, for those on the fence).
LEVEL 2:  Minimum half script read and full read if first half is solid.
LEVEL 3:  Full reads by established writers and minimum 10-page reads by reps.

Scripts can climb to the next level by:
